1 00:00:14,059 --> 00:00:17,359 Welcome to the Lansdale Life Church podcast. 2 00:00:18,399 --> 00:00:24,100 If you're seeking a closer relationship with Jesus Christ, this podcast is for you. 3 00:00:24,660 --> 00:00:27,079 Thank you for joining us today. 4 00:00:34,920 --> 00:00:35,880 All right. 5 00:00:37,460 --> 00:00:38,399 Everyone doing good? 6 00:00:39,560 --> 00:00:39,880 Yeah. 7 00:00:41,039 --> 00:00:46,259 Starting to feel like fall. We got some cool weather. I broke out my jacket. I'm pretty excited. 8 00:00:47,280 --> 00:00:50,600 Yeah, pretty cold tonight. Got some leaves going. 9 00:00:51,680 --> 00:01:02,439 I always love the fall. October's a big month. My son was born in October. Our anniversary's in October. What's up, Danny? How's it going, man? 10 00:01:03,460 --> 00:01:09,219 Usually, did you think you were teaching tonight? No, I'm just kidding. Just messing with you. I'd do the same thing. 11 00:01:09,739 --> 00:01:17,920 But yeah, so October's always a good month. Actually, we just celebrated 10 years married on October 3rd, so we were down in Florida. 12 00:01:18,579 --> 00:01:24,900 It was pretty awesome. It was weird coming back, though, to this from, like, having 80s and tons of sun. 13 00:01:25,540 --> 00:01:37,780 And Beau was born on our anniversary, too, so we share the day with him. His birthday now is over our anniversary, so we always celebrate on, like, the 5th or 6th, because we just feel too bad to take his day. 14 00:01:37,959 --> 00:01:42,099 But it was a good time. And to start off the whole trip, we really started on a high note. 15 00:01:42,099 --> 00:01:53,500 I left one of our crucial bags of luggage in the family room when we went to the airport, and I realized once we got to security, so we had to buy a lot of extra stuff when we got down there at Walmart. 16 00:01:54,040 --> 00:02:00,859 I'm just glad it wasn't Maria's wardrobe. She probably would have been excited to replace all of it, but yeah, we made it through. 17 00:02:01,120 --> 00:02:07,780 It was the white noises and cameras for the babies and all, so yeah, we made it, but it was a good time. It's good to be back. 18 00:02:08,759 --> 00:02:17,800 We're going to be hitting numbers 19 tonight. You guys can turn there. We're going to pray in a sec, but numbers 19. 19 00:02:19,699 --> 00:02:36,680 Let's see here. All right. And this is laws for the purification. I titled the message cleansed because it's just so powerful to see Jesus in this and how we've been cleansed from our sins, from this purification water. 20 00:02:36,680 --> 00:02:49,219 So before we get into it, let's pray and just ask the Lord to be here and speak through his word, which you know he will. Jesus, just thank you, Lord, that you have cleansed us, God. 21 00:02:50,300 --> 00:02:57,379 Thank you that when we are in you, Lord, the old is gone and the new is here, Lord. There's no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 22 00:02:58,259 --> 00:03:17,219 And I pray, Lord, that tonight, God, that your spirit would pour out into our hearts, Lord. I pray that you would open our eyes and our minds and our hearts, Lord, to see you in this passage and just to better understand your sacrifice in your life and your resurrection and what it means for us, God. 23 00:03:17,219 --> 00:03:32,120 I just pray for, yeah, my words and just spider web of notes all over the place. God, I pray that you would just speak beyond all that, Lord, and that you would reveal yourself to us tonight in Jesus name. Amen. 24 00:03:33,400 --> 00:03:43,039 So I have three goals for tonight. One is that you would see Jesus in this passage, that you would see his love, what he did for us. 25 00:03:43,039 --> 00:03:56,479 And honestly, you know, Jesus says that the law and the prophets speak of me. So if we're going to the Bible and we're not looking for Jesus, we're actually missing the point because Jesus says all of this points to me. 26 00:03:56,800 --> 00:04:10,939 So if we go and just look at it as some random ceremony, we missed it. If we go and just try to see ourselves in it, we missed it. But if we go and we try and see Jesus in it, we will see the truth of the word and it will change us. 27 00:04:10,939 --> 00:04:24,939 So I want us to see Jesus in this passage tonight. I also want just to better understand the truth that we're cleansed. We're cleansed from our sin. And then what does it mean now that we are cleansed? 28 00:04:25,089 --> 00:04:46,290 So let's jump into it. Chapter 19 again in Numbers. And I read in some commentaries that this was actually possibly a ceremony that was brought about that the Lord brought about after chapter 17 when Aaron's bud at the very budding at his bud. 29 00:04:46,970 --> 00:04:57,790 Aaron's budding staff, if you guys remember right at the end, all the people like the rebellious people were like, oh, who can even go near the temple or the or the tabernacle? We should all die. 30 00:04:57,970 --> 00:05:14,170 And they said, like, we're going to die all this stuff like 10 times in one sentence. It was very death focused. And so now, like, you know, two chapters later, he, the Lord is bringing about this way to cleanse specifically from dead bodies because there's a lot of death in the last few chapters. 31 00:05:14,170 --> 00:05:41,670 So a way that they can approach God again. So let's read. Chapter 19, verse one. Now the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron saying, this is the ordinance of the law which the Lord has commanded, saying, speak to the children of Israel that they bring you a red heifer without blemish, in which there is no defect and on which a yoke has never come. 32 00:05:41,670 --> 00:05:58,410 You shall give it to Eleazar the priest that he may take it outside the camp and it shall be slaughtered before him. And Eleazar the priest shall take some of its blood with his finger and sprinkle some of its blood seven times directly in front of the tabernacle of meeting. 33 00:05:58,410 --> 00:06:12,670 And the heifer shall be burned in his sight, its hide, its flesh, its blood, and its oafel shall be burned. And the priest shall take cedarwood and hyssop and scarlet and cast them into the midst of the fire burning the heifer. 34 00:06:14,069 --> 00:06:25,990 There's a lot here, guys. There is a lot going on. And I want to set up these verses with a verse in Hebrews. Hebrews 9, if you want to write it down, 13 to 14. 35 00:06:26,990 --> 00:06:41,250 It says, for if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, speaking directly of this chapter right here, the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh. 36 00:06:42,029 --> 00:06:54,370 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal spirit offered himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 37 00:06:54,370 --> 00:07:10,069 So we see here this whole ceremony that's taking place. It's a picture of Jesus. And that was for a purifying and cleansing of the flesh, basically like the outward appearance and the things that could defile them. 38 00:07:10,470 --> 00:07:21,370 But the true cleansing needs to take place in the conscience, in our soul. And our conscience is our ability of our soul to distinguish right from wrong. 39 00:07:21,370 --> 00:07:31,189 And so when you are aware of your sin, you are judging right and wrong correctly, and you can be weighed down by that. You can feel guilty, you can feel shame, all those things. 40 00:07:31,810 --> 00:07:45,529 But Jesus wants to cleanse your conscience. He wants to free you from it, and he wants to free your conscience to be able to tell what is truly right and wrong, so that what? We can serve the living God. 41 00:07:45,529 --> 00:07:55,189 So we're going to read this, and like I said, the goal is to see Jesus. He said, all of this speaks of him, so if we're going to this passage and we're not looking for him, we are missing the point. 42 00:07:57,090 --> 00:08:15,089 So, red heifer. A red heifer is a female cow that's never been pregnant, and so it's a young cow, it's red, and I was thinking about, like, this is interesting, what's with the red? Like, why does it have to be red? It's the only sacrifice that talks about the color. Like, why red? 43 00:08:16,090 --> 00:08:32,950 And as I was thinking about it, and reading up on it, I actually saw that, you know how Jesus always calls himself the son of man, right? I'm the son of man. He's identifying, like, yes, I'm the son of God, but I'm also the son of man. That means he was born in the flesh. He's one of us. 44 00:08:32,950 --> 00:08:46,610 And he's also called, in 1 Corinthians, the last Adam. So he's the son of man, and he's the last Adam. The first Adam brought sin and death, and it says in 1 Corinthians, the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 45 00:08:47,230 --> 00:08:51,789 And you know what Adam means? Like, literally, the word Adam, it means red. 46 00:08:52,990 --> 00:09:08,610 Isn't that interesting? The actual, like, straightforward definition of Adam is red, and it's linked through the etymology to the word Adama, which means red clay or red ground, because he came from the earth. 47 00:09:08,610 --> 00:09:29,590 So here, I'm immediately, you know, I feel like the Lord's purpose in choosing a red heifer is to say, just like the red of Adam, that he's man, so is Jesus, he came in the flesh, and he was a man to pay for the sin and death, so that you can truly be alive. 48 00:09:29,590 --> 00:09:39,570 So if he's one of us, isn't it amazing that he's without blemish? Isn't it amazing that he never sinned once? 49 00:09:40,649 --> 00:09:46,129 Like, he did what we couldn't. It says this red heifer has to be free from every single blemish. 50 00:09:46,710 --> 00:09:56,429 The Israelites took this so seriously that if they found more than one black hair on the entire red heifer, it was disqualified from being sacrificed. 51 00:09:57,090 --> 00:10:11,730 If they found more than one white hair, it was disqualified. Could you imagine the job of that, like, sitting there? You probably took three months to re-inspect each hair. You get to the end, you're going back again, because if you get it wrong, like, who knows what's going to happen, right? 52 00:10:12,250 --> 00:10:25,289 And so the purity of this animal, and also that it was never pregnant, just showing that it's, in all ways, there was nothing else in it. It was truly and wholly all the way through this pure animal. 53 00:10:26,429 --> 00:10:44,450 That is our Jesus, undefiled, perfect in every single way, but he was one of us. That is his power, and his glory, and the Holy Spirit that could, that as a holy God living in our flesh, he never once gave in to temptation. 54 00:10:44,450 --> 00:10:56,450 And that is so encouraging, because, one, he's obviously the perfect sacrifice to pay for all of our sin, but in addition to that, he knows the way out of every single temptation. 55 00:10:57,409 --> 00:11:06,710 And the way out is directly through him. That's why he says, when you're in the midst of any temptation, turn to him, because he has a way out for you. 56 00:11:06,710 --> 00:11:19,590 Because he was in, it says, he was tempted likewise and always as we are, yet without sin. He is our forgiveness of sin. He is also our power and our victory over it. 57 00:11:20,809 --> 00:11:32,149 And I noticed, too, it says, never yoked. That's kind of interesting. Right? Yoked. You know, I had a friend, he never, he grew up going to church, and it's so funny. 58 00:11:32,769 --> 00:11:38,570 We were in church, like, two years ago, and the pastor started talking about the yoke, you know, on the oxen. 59 00:11:39,769 --> 00:11:46,049 And he's like, my whole life, I always thought when the Bible talked about yokes, I thought it was like an egg. I never really took the time. 60 00:11:46,409 --> 00:11:49,750 And they, like, explained, it's just this thing that goes over the animal, and he's like, that's pretty crazy. 61 00:11:50,230 --> 00:11:56,009 I'm like, so what did you think when Jesus said, come to me, my burden is easy, and my yoke is light. Or my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. 62 00:11:56,009 --> 00:12:02,470 He's like, yeah, I just, you know, I didn't know, I just kind of thought it was an egg. I'm like, what are you doing? Take the time to think, you know? 63 00:12:03,490 --> 00:12:16,789 But here is this animal never once yoked by the things of this world. Right? Never once was the under bondage. Never once was he in slavery to do this work. 64 00:12:17,470 --> 00:12:25,909 And I see Jesus who does say, my yoke is easy, my burden is light. And why is that? Because he was only ever in submission to the Father. 65 00:12:26,330 --> 00:12:37,190 He never became entangled and pulled down by the things of this earth, and he never had to strive to be good enough because he is purely holy. 66 00:12:37,190 --> 00:12:48,269 And that's why in him we have rest. And we see this animal never once yoked, and so Jesus was never once held down by sin, or the things of this earth. 67 00:12:48,769 --> 00:12:53,509 And that's why we can truly have rest in him. It says, enter the rest of Christ. 68 00:12:54,529 --> 00:13:01,269 And also I see in this, you know, it is grace through faith that we receive forgiveness, right? 69 00:13:01,269 --> 00:13:10,990 It's not through working and striving and doing all the things of the law anymore, but it's completely in this resting place of grace through faith. 70 00:13:11,649 --> 00:13:19,690 And this sacrifice here, which says it was for purification and cleansing of sin, was through an animal that never strived before. 71 00:13:20,909 --> 00:13:30,710 And that's us. Once we come to Christ, we don't strive anymore to be holy, but we live and we desire and we strive to live for him. 72 00:13:31,269 --> 00:13:37,909 We don't just stop trying, right? We want to become like him, but it's through submission to the Father, just like it was for Jesus. 73 00:13:40,309 --> 00:13:46,129 And then outside the camp, are you guys seeing Jesus yet in this? Are we getting there? 74 00:13:47,250 --> 00:13:52,750 And outside the camp, that's where this animal sacrificed. 75 00:13:54,189 --> 00:14:01,190 Hebrews 13-12, therefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered outside the gate. 76 00:14:01,850 --> 00:14:08,289 This is the gate of Jerusalem, crucified outside of the actual people of God. He was on the outside. 77 00:14:08,649 --> 00:14:18,710 This animal is brought outside the people of God, to the far, you know, out into the wilderness away from everyone, and was killed there, and so was Jesus. 78 00:14:19,949 --> 00:14:24,570 And if there's not enough pointing to Jesus, we have cedar, hyssop, and scarlet. 79 00:14:25,870 --> 00:14:33,669 All three parts, if you guys were here for the cleansing of the leper, which, that's Leviticus 14, read it. 80 00:14:34,210 --> 00:14:43,029 You know, tonight, tomorrow, this week, just read Leviticus 14, and then, you know, Google some stuff, Google Jesus and scarlet worm, all these things are going to blow your mind. 81 00:14:43,029 --> 00:14:56,909 But there's three things that are used here, as well as in this cleansing ceremony for the leper, which is an amazing picture of us being cleansed from sin, and now being welcomed back into God's presence. 82 00:14:57,350 --> 00:15:04,570 But cedar is used in this, as we see it's thrown in the fire, and cedar is resistant to disease and rot. 83 00:15:05,810 --> 00:15:17,809 It's resistant to disease and rot, and this sacrifice of God, and God's character, Jesus, who he is, is 100% resistant to any contamination, rot, or disease. 84 00:15:18,389 --> 00:15:28,210 He will never, the power of his death on the cross will never lose its strength. 100% it is preserved forever. 85 00:15:28,210 --> 00:15:36,809 The blood of Jesus is always as powerful as the day he shed it till the day before he comes. His forgiveness is always for you. 86 00:15:37,769 --> 00:15:45,389 And many people actually believe that the wood of the cedar in this, that Jesus' cross was also made of cedar. 87 00:15:45,850 --> 00:15:54,870 A lot of people, because there's so many things that point to Jesus, like verbatim, they never say what his cross was made of, but many people think it was actually cedar. 88 00:15:54,870 --> 00:16:07,110 And then hyssop, it was used for purging the leper after they're healed, and so Jesus, John 19 29, was offered a drink on the cross with a branch of hyssop. 89 00:16:08,389 --> 00:16:17,090 And then scarlet was used in all the holy fabrics, we see it's thrown in this fire, so it's used for the priestly garments, everything in the temple had the scarlet in it. 90 00:16:17,090 --> 00:16:24,669 And then Jesus, when he was being tortured by the soldiers, they threw a scarlet robe on him. 91 00:16:25,509 --> 00:16:35,889 And here scarlet is used in the sacrifice for purification from sin, and so Jesus clothed in scarlet when he's about to shed his own blood for us. 92 00:16:36,590 --> 00:16:44,509 So we see the everlasting perfection of Jesus and his work on the cross, and what it means for us, that it never loses its power, it's never defiled. 93 00:16:44,509 --> 00:17:02,190 And also that the hyssop is the purging of sin, and that it was there at his crucifixion, and also that the scarlet was used in the holy things of God, and was there wrapped around the holiest of all, Jesus himself right before his death. 94 00:17:05,269 --> 00:17:19,150 And the blood, we see, it's sprinkled seven times, and it's sprinkled not just anywhere, not on the outside, but right in front of the tabernacle. 95 00:17:20,069 --> 00:17:27,230 Seven times right in front of the tabernacle, and does anyone know what seven is always used for in the Bible? It's not just like a random number, was it? 96 00:17:28,570 --> 00:17:34,769 It's completion, wholeness, perfection, like all those things in one. It is God's number. 97 00:17:35,529 --> 00:17:46,230 So it's saying that the blood for the purification of the sin is whole, it's completion, it's perfection, that 100%, this has been dealt with. 98 00:17:46,329 --> 00:18:04,130 And it's not just dealt with anywhere, it's not dealt with the family members that they may have sinned against, it's not dealt with this man or woman's spouse, or it's not dealt with, you know, your friends, it's dealt with right in front of God, right in front of the tabernacle. 99 00:18:04,130 --> 00:18:11,029 And it's saying that through the sacrifice you're justified before the one who truly matters, and that is God. 100 00:18:11,809 --> 00:18:25,049 And so Jesus, like aren't you glad you are justified? Just as if you never sinned. Justified in front of him who truly matters, the judge of the world, God, by the true blood of Jesus. 101 00:18:26,450 --> 00:18:45,589 And that's just, that's the truth. Like we, when we're in Christ, when we receive salvation, no matter what we've done, no matter how recent it was, no matter what we're currently doing or what we will do, 100%, we have been forgiven by Jesus. 102 00:18:45,589 --> 00:18:58,930 We have been forgiven by the judge of the world. And yes, like sometimes forgiveness takes longer with people on this earth, but just know you are forgiven with God, and that's who truly matters. 103 00:18:59,430 --> 00:19:09,430 You will not have any of your sins counted against you, and when you get to heaven, he will see you like he sees his son, and will welcome you in openly and with joy. 104 00:19:11,629 --> 00:19:28,309 And we see that too, the sacrifice of Jesus is so much more powerful because when the blood was sprinkled in front of the tabernacle, yes, it gave this cleansing from sin, but when Jesus built his own blood, what happened? 105 00:19:28,869 --> 00:19:36,509 The very holy of holies inside the temple was ripped in half. We didn't see that from the sacrifice, but we see it in the death of Jesus. 106 00:19:36,509 --> 00:19:46,529 The very holy of holies, as soon as he died and breathed his last, there was an earthquake, the rocks broke, and the tabernacle, holy of holy curtain was torn. 107 00:19:47,509 --> 00:19:59,390 Man, like that's saying we can come directly into his presence any time. Even if we've messed up just today, an hour ago, we have forgiveness through Jesus, and we can come to him boldly. 108 00:20:00,390 --> 00:20:12,309 We can come directly to him, and it's also saying that no longer is his presence only in this religious system of having to go to this place, but his presence is coming out, and he wants to fill us. 109 00:20:12,670 --> 00:20:16,029 Everywhere we go, his spirit is inside of us. 110 00:20:16,609 --> 00:20:31,869 I don't know about you, but people sometimes get weirded out by this endless grace kind of thing, and they think it will allow people to, I guess, abuse the grace of God, right? 111 00:20:32,750 --> 00:20:44,529 But when you truly see what it costs, if you lose focus and you start looking at the world and just giving into your flesh, yeah, you will start to not live for God, and you'll start to sin again. 112 00:20:44,529 --> 00:20:56,349 But when you realize how much his grace costs, you won't want to sin. You won't. Like literally Jesus, who was perfect, it says he became sin. 113 00:20:57,230 --> 00:21:05,089 Do you know what that might feel like? All the sin of the world, the most horrible things you can possibly think of, he became on the cross. 114 00:21:05,730 --> 00:21:09,369 He was actually aware of all those things that were done. 115 00:21:09,910 --> 00:21:18,930 Like when we know the things that are done in some of these like around the world, and we hear about how sick this is, like it weighs me down for days. 116 00:21:19,710 --> 00:21:24,089 Jesus became it on the cross, and it says that... 117 00:21:39,549 --> 00:21:50,769 Yeah. He actually got, he's got himself, and he actually experienced the separation that sin calls us. 118 00:21:55,650 --> 00:22:08,849 But the love of God, he did that for us. And even while he was betrayed by his best friends and he was actively being tortured, he said, 119 00:22:08,849 --> 00:22:17,250 Father forgive them for they know not what they do. That's the love of God for us. 120 00:22:20,470 --> 00:22:27,390 He was beaten beyond recognition. You couldn't even tell it was him anymore. 121 00:22:30,170 --> 00:22:31,910 Thank you, Jesus. Thank you. 122 00:22:39,009 --> 00:22:45,369 And so when you realize what it costs, people aren't going to want to abuse the grace of God. 123 00:22:47,349 --> 00:22:49,950 I don't want to when I really think about it. 124 00:22:52,750 --> 00:23:02,490 I don't want to grieve the spirit of God. It says when we sin and we grieve him. It's not like, like, yes, we are forgiven, but it still grieves him if we're walking in sin. 125 00:23:06,070 --> 00:23:14,609 And so when we realize the cost of grace, though it's free to us, it wasn't free to him, and you will want to live holy. 126 00:23:15,589 --> 00:23:21,509 Like, it makes me want to live holy, and it makes me want to live as that living sacrifice like the word talks about. 127 00:23:25,350 --> 00:23:27,069 Thank you, Lord. I just want to pray for a second. 128 00:23:27,069 --> 00:23:38,549 Lord Jesus, I just pray, God. I pray for my own heart, Lord. I pray for everyone here, Lord. I pray for our church, the global church, God. 129 00:23:38,769 --> 00:23:50,150 I just pray, Lord, that we would be reminded of the cost of this grace that we get to enjoy, the cost of forgiveness, Lord, that it was you. 130 00:23:52,410 --> 00:24:00,869 You, you paid the price. And Lord, we thank you for this gift freely given, which is your son. 131 00:24:02,930 --> 00:24:10,950 Lord, we receive him with so much humility, Lord, so much gratitude, and we love you, in Jesus' name, amen. 132 00:24:13,590 --> 00:24:29,170 Okay. So, let's read in, yeah, at the end of that, it says that the blood, this animal was burned with the blood. 133 00:24:31,350 --> 00:24:47,269 Every other sacrifice had the blood poured fully out of it before his sacrifice, but this animal, for the cleansing of sin, had the blood in it when it was burned, and that blood would be in the ashes for application. 134 00:24:49,390 --> 00:24:56,329 And that just speaks of the eternal forgiveness that is in the application of his death. 135 00:24:57,190 --> 00:25:09,970 It wasn't a one-time thing. Your sins were forgiven that time, but sins after this won't be. It speaks that every time we have sinned, the blood is applied on it. It doesn't run out. 136 00:25:10,809 --> 00:25:14,130 That's why his mercy is new every single morning. 137 00:25:17,530 --> 00:25:28,970 Now, I want to talk about this grace and this condemnation and the difference between, like, when we are in grace, condemnation and correction. 138 00:25:30,750 --> 00:25:38,569 Because, yeah, we will mess up still. We desire not to. We will sin, even though we don't want to. 139 00:25:39,730 --> 00:25:46,650 Thankfully, the Spirit of God enables us to walk in his ways, but we may not always walk in his ways. 140 00:25:49,410 --> 00:25:55,490 And the fact that Jesus cleanses us can give us confidence. Our sins, past, present, future, are forgiven. 141 00:25:56,490 --> 00:26:00,829 But when we sin, there's a difference between condemnation and correction. 142 00:26:01,969 --> 00:26:10,950 Because condemnation pushes you down to focus and dwell and spiral and go into anxiety and depression over what you've done. 143 00:26:11,950 --> 00:26:19,289 The correction of God lifts you up. It pulls you back up to the standard, and it empowers you to do it. 144 00:26:19,289 --> 00:26:33,529 We know the Word of God is here to empower us, and it's here to sharpen us, and it's spirit-breathed, and it gives us correction so that we can actually live out the things of God. 145 00:26:34,329 --> 00:26:46,849 So, I know I shared this before, but for an image of this, we haven't had the best success with animals in my family. 146 00:26:48,429 --> 00:26:54,690 And if you are facing—I know, Mom, you're already cringing. This is something we learned, so don't judge my parents, okay? 147 00:26:55,130 --> 00:26:57,950 This is what we were told to do. We're just going by what we know. 148 00:26:59,329 --> 00:27:05,730 So, our pets would poop on the ground, right? And so, you know, we're trying to potty train them. 149 00:27:05,730 --> 00:27:10,750 We've got a bunch of light carpets. You don't want to be doing pee and poop all the time and cleaning it up. 150 00:27:10,750 --> 00:27:18,069 And so, we were told, what you got to do is when it poops on the ground, you take the animal's head and you put it right there in front of it and be like, 151 00:27:18,250 --> 00:27:24,970 No, poop. No, pee. You just got to shove its face right near it. We're not shoving it in it, but right in front of it, right? 152 00:27:25,410 --> 00:27:31,369 And then they learn their lesson. Sometimes we think that the correction of God is like that, right? 153 00:27:31,829 --> 00:27:35,109 And our dogs turned out fine. They learned. They still liked us, I think, you know? 154 00:27:35,109 --> 00:27:44,130 But that's not what God does. Like I said, the love of God draws people to repentance. 155 00:27:45,150 --> 00:27:51,430 It draws us to wanting to turn from our ways. Repentance means change your mind 180 degrees. 156 00:27:52,569 --> 00:27:58,390 Like, I have been corrected all the time by God. Like, even this week, it's a good thing because he wants to raise us up. 157 00:27:58,390 --> 00:28:09,170 And so, when I am aware of sin or I'm aware of areas that I'm failing or need him more, God lifts me up to the standard. 158 00:28:09,349 --> 00:28:17,029 He says, hey, you're doing this. You're struggling. It's there. Whatever it is. But look, like you're called a man of God. 159 00:28:17,289 --> 00:28:23,109 You are called to walk in faith and walk in the spirit. And you can have victory over this. Like, let's do this. 160 00:28:23,109 --> 00:28:30,150 This is very, like, progress. This is very hopeful. Like, God's correction is filled with hope. 161 00:28:30,809 --> 00:28:37,009 So, when you are aware of your sin, that's a good thing, but you need to pivot immediately into repentance 162 00:28:37,009 --> 00:28:42,769 and into receiving God's correction and walk away from the condemnation of the enemy. 163 00:28:42,890 --> 00:28:47,210 Because it says in the Word that the enemy is the accuser of the brethren. 164 00:28:47,210 --> 00:28:55,150 He will do every single thing he can to, yes, use the facts of your sin to then disqualify you from walking with God 165 00:28:55,150 --> 00:28:59,750 and make you just spiral and not walk out all the plans God has for you. 166 00:29:00,549 --> 00:29:06,109 So, don't give into condemnation, but completely surrender to God's correction. Amen. 167 00:29:06,109 --> 00:29:12,529 Alright, verse 9. It's there and then we're going to jump to 17. 168 00:29:38,029 --> 00:29:44,329 It's all surrounding dead bodies because you're not allowed to touch a dead body, which we'll talk about shortly. 169 00:30:09,809 --> 00:30:21,089 Then the clean person shall sprinkle the unclean on the third day and on the seventh day he shall purify himself, wash his clothes, and bathe in water. 170 00:30:21,329 --> 00:30:28,589 And that evening he shall be clean. But the man who is unclean and does not purify himself, that person shall be cut off from among the assembly, 171 00:30:28,910 --> 00:30:35,009 because he has to file the sanctuary of the Lord. The water of purification has not been sprinkled on him. 172 00:30:35,009 --> 00:30:43,430 He is unclean. So we see this water. It says running water. I believe some versions say living water, but it's maybe not. 173 00:30:43,609 --> 00:30:46,650 But it's running water. It's from a spring. It's clean and active. 174 00:30:47,769 --> 00:30:54,789 And we know that Jesus in the Gospels speaks of this living water, and this is pointing directly to this. 175 00:30:54,789 --> 00:31:00,089 And he calls this living water, he calls the Holy Spirit living water. 176 00:31:01,410 --> 00:31:07,450 And we see in Matthew, yeah, Matthew Henry, I think it's his name, the commentary. 177 00:31:07,930 --> 00:31:13,470 He says that the ashes that we see in this heifer is the righteousness or the merit of God, 178 00:31:14,230 --> 00:31:18,230 and the water is the power and grace of his Holy Spirit. 179 00:31:18,769 --> 00:31:25,369 And this application, you can't have one without the other. You're not going to get the Spirit of God without his righteousness, 180 00:31:26,130 --> 00:31:29,890 and you're not going to just get the righteousness of God without his Holy Spirit. 181 00:31:30,089 --> 00:31:35,390 They are not two separate people. They're one. The trying God. They are all part of the same. 182 00:31:36,069 --> 00:31:43,549 And it shows us that as believers, we are purified from sin, and we are filled and empowered with the Holy Spirit. 183 00:31:43,549 --> 00:31:49,730 That's what you get. Like this old covenant, it was kind of just a cleansing, 184 00:31:50,049 --> 00:31:56,509 and it didn't really do much past that, but the Gospel of Jesus is both a true cleansing 185 00:31:56,509 --> 00:32:03,109 from all past, present, and future sins, as well as an empowerment of the Holy Spirit inside of you. 186 00:32:03,930 --> 00:32:10,430 And this water is cleansing. We see John 13, right, the Last Supper. 187 00:32:10,430 --> 00:32:18,430 What does Jesus say? He says, actually, let's turn there. John 13, verse 5. 188 00:32:32,250 --> 00:32:35,609 I just love hearing the flipping pages. That is nice. 189 00:32:38,309 --> 00:32:40,829 Okay, I'll start reading. Verse 5. 190 00:33:05,609 --> 00:33:09,269 If I do not wash you, you have no part with me. 191 00:33:09,710 --> 00:33:13,549 Simon Peter said to him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. 192 00:33:14,289 --> 00:33:19,450 Jesus said to him, he who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean, 193 00:33:19,670 --> 00:33:23,369 and you are clean, but not all of you. Speaking of Judas. 194 00:33:25,289 --> 00:33:30,369 So, he who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean, and you are clean. 195 00:33:31,950 --> 00:33:38,250 So, we see something here, as a disciple of God, we are cleansed, and we are completely clean, 196 00:33:38,430 --> 00:33:39,789 but there is a washing of our feet. 197 00:33:40,950 --> 00:33:45,809 And you know, the picture, and I believe what Jesus is saying is, as we go through this life, 198 00:33:46,730 --> 00:33:51,069 you know, we are clean. We are clean by his death and resurrection. 199 00:33:52,170 --> 00:33:57,190 But we can get, in some ways, weighed down by the things of this life, right? 200 00:33:57,190 --> 00:34:00,329 Your feet are going through the dirt. It's picking up all types of stuff. 201 00:34:01,049 --> 00:34:05,130 And so, there's a washing that happens, that should continue to happen. 202 00:34:05,569 --> 00:34:09,630 We are continually supposed to be washed in the Word, and washed in the Holy Spirit. 203 00:34:10,110 --> 00:34:14,610 So, the things of this life don't start to contaminate us in any way, 204 00:34:14,670 --> 00:34:17,170 that we don't slowly become like the world. 205 00:34:17,789 --> 00:34:22,090 And so, this is a constant dependence on him that we need to have. 206 00:34:22,090 --> 00:34:26,369 This is, like I said, the Gospel is not just a one-time thing, 207 00:34:26,889 --> 00:34:29,349 that you have the altar call, and then you're saved. 208 00:34:29,570 --> 00:34:33,309 Like, that is true, but the whole walk of the Christian is the Gospel. 209 00:34:33,929 --> 00:34:37,730 The Bible says, you were saved by the Gospel, and you stand in the Gospel. 210 00:34:38,210 --> 00:34:39,630 Like, it needs to be everything. 211 00:34:40,150 --> 00:34:44,449 Like, to even live the Christian life, we need to be continually washed in the Word, 212 00:34:45,009 --> 00:34:48,989 continually formed to look like him, continually empowered by the Holy Spirit, 213 00:34:48,989 --> 00:34:55,170 every single day. And the Gospel, what Jesus has done for us, 214 00:34:55,369 --> 00:34:59,250 is the day we were saved, and every single day until he comes back. 215 00:34:59,349 --> 00:35:03,010 And even in glory, we're going to be there because of the Gospel. Amen. 216 00:35:04,690 --> 00:35:10,949 So then, from here, we see how all of this, what this is all related to. 217 00:35:11,050 --> 00:35:16,670 It's interesting, because the whole verse says that it's for the purifying 218 00:35:16,670 --> 00:35:20,849 and cleansing of sin, but then all the application is just around 219 00:35:20,849 --> 00:35:23,650 cleansing for the death, like dead bodies. 220 00:35:24,909 --> 00:35:29,869 And a lot of people are saying that, like commentaries, a lot of theologians are saying, 221 00:35:29,869 --> 00:35:35,449 this was here, and then it didn't have any other practical applications 222 00:35:35,449 --> 00:35:39,190 for cleansing of sin, because it was actually pointing to Jesus, 223 00:35:39,289 --> 00:35:44,050 and that when he came as the true sacrifice, there would be cleansing of sins. 224 00:35:44,869 --> 00:35:48,750 And so death, we know the wages of sin is death. 225 00:35:49,670 --> 00:35:54,030 We know Adam and Eve in the garden, don't eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 226 00:35:54,349 --> 00:35:56,329 In the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die. 227 00:35:56,829 --> 00:36:00,489 So immediately death came in because of sin. 228 00:36:01,389 --> 00:36:05,329 And so the reason there's cleansing when you touch a dead body, 229 00:36:05,590 --> 00:36:08,789 is because it's basically saying the end result of sin is death. 230 00:36:08,789 --> 00:36:13,949 If you sin, you die, and we've all sinned, and we all deserve to die, 231 00:36:14,690 --> 00:36:16,769 physically and both spiritually as well. 232 00:36:17,710 --> 00:36:24,610 But Jesus, or the Lord in this passage, is saying that I want to cleanse you from the death. 233 00:36:26,050 --> 00:36:31,670 So what he's saying here is, I want to cleanse you from the effects and the results of sin. 234 00:36:33,130 --> 00:36:38,309 So yes, sin is forgiven and cleansed, but all of its effects can as well. 235 00:36:38,309 --> 00:36:42,590 And there are so many stories of people that when they come to Jesus, 236 00:36:42,829 --> 00:36:44,469 the memories of things are gone. 237 00:36:45,170 --> 00:36:47,170 Like all the trauma is healed. 238 00:36:47,809 --> 00:36:51,170 All the memories, all the guilt, the shame, 239 00:36:51,630 --> 00:36:54,190 like the ways of thinking that were just messed up. 240 00:36:54,909 --> 00:36:59,690 All the spiritual and emotional trauma because of sin done to you or sin you've done, 241 00:36:59,809 --> 00:37:05,190 can actually be completely restored and done away with by what Jesus has done. 242 00:37:05,929 --> 00:37:12,590 And in addition to that, the best thing is, is like all the effects of sin is gone, 243 00:37:13,130 --> 00:37:17,250 and because of that, we can actually have full assurance of faith. 244 00:37:18,829 --> 00:37:23,650 Is anyone happy for full assurance of the fact that we are forgiven and going to heaven? 245 00:37:24,269 --> 00:37:30,909 Like we get to go to heaven and we get to experience the heavenly kingdom of God right now, 246 00:37:30,909 --> 00:37:36,889 that the things that are messed up inside of us have been paid for and are being dealt with by His Holy Spirit. 247 00:37:37,510 --> 00:37:40,869 He doesn't want us to be double-minded, full of condemnation and all, 248 00:37:41,090 --> 00:37:46,489 but He wants us to have His Spirit, which is the Spirit of power and of love and of a sound mind. 249 00:37:47,050 --> 00:37:51,170 And I don't think anything pulls us together like Hebrews 10.22. 250 00:37:51,750 --> 00:37:53,369 It says, let us draw near. 251 00:37:53,750 --> 00:37:59,309 Let us draw near to God with a true heart in full assurance of faith, 252 00:37:59,309 --> 00:38:06,389 having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 253 00:38:08,949 --> 00:38:14,170 And at the end of this chapter, we see that we just read that the man who is unclean and does not purify himself, 254 00:38:14,389 --> 00:38:18,849 that person shall be cut off from the assembly because he has defiled the sanctuary of the Lord. 255 00:38:19,769 --> 00:38:23,650 The water of purification has not been sprinkled on him.
